Summary: Sometimes it is hard to separate your dreams from your reality.
Tony DiNozzo woke with a start and reached for his wife. Finding her sleeping soundly beside him, he sighed in relief and rolled back to his side of the bed.
The dream seemed so real.
In it he and his wife weren’t married but they were partners working together as NCIS agents in Washington DC. They had a cranky boss, a geeky but loveable side kick and a quirky goth girl that seemed like a sister to him, only she wasn’t.
Even though he and Ziva weren’t married in the dream, there was something definitely between them – unspoken and unconsummated, but there none the less.
It wasn’t a bad dream, not by any stretch of the imagination but it left him feeling out of sorts and slightly edgy while he showered and dressed.
Joining his family at the breakfast table, they began to discuss the day ahead. It was going to be a busy one.
After Ziva dropped the kids at school, she had an important meeting with the African delegate in town for the Global Warming Symposium. She worked as a translator at the Embassy where her father served as the Israeli Ambassador to the UN.
Noticing that Tony looked a bit distracted, she asked “Are you ok?”
Blinking back to reality, he replied “Yes, I’m fine.” Chuckling, he added “Just thinking about getting through the day with my dad.”
Ziva laughed “He doesn’t suspect anything does he?”
“No. He thinks it is just the six of us getting together to celebrate, he has no idea that we have a party planned”
“Good. Then why do you seem worried?”
“I’m not worried. More like dreading. He’s been walking around the office all week strutting like a rooster. You would think he was the only man in the world celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary”
Ziva smirked “Well, I must hand it to your mother, DiNozzo men aren’t easy men to be married to.”
Tony smiled at the comment knowing it for the joke that it was meant to be. He knew Ziva loved being married to him as much as he loved being married to her.
He made the rounds at the table kissing two dark haired curly heads and whispering “Be good today. I love you” to each one.
Circling back to his wife he kissed her briefly on the lips and then nuzzled her left ear lobe – the one with the slit in it from a mishap with a wayward earring when she was a teenager - and whispered huskily “Wear the turquoise dress tonight. You know the one”.
She smiled seductively in return; she knew the one he was talking about.
After another kiss, this one a little deeper that spoke of promises of what the evening would bring, he picked up his briefcase and walked out the door of their home to the waiting chauffeured car that would take him to downtown New York City and the offices of DiNozzo Enterprises.

Tony DiNozzo woke with a start and reached for his wife. Finding the bed empty he turned over and clicked on the bedside table lamp. The first thing he noticed was the NCIS badge and his gun lying where he had left them the night before.
He ran his hands through his hair and fell heavily back against the pillow. He closed his eyes and willed himself back to sleep – perchance to dream again.
